Two women died while two others were injured after a fire broke out inside the electrical unit of a high-rise building in Masjid Bandar during the early hours of Sunday, 16th February. The deceased have been identified as Sajiya Alam Shaikh (30) and Sabila Khatun Shaikh (42). the ill-fated victims were recovered from the passage of Pann Ali Mansion’s first floor where they sustained burn injuries and suffocation due to smoke.  The common meter box was the point of origination of the fire, as reported by officials.

Fire accidents continue to claim lives in Mumbai as many parts of Mumbai’s residential segment are becoming obvious high-fire risk zones due to cheek-to-jowl housing with age-old electrical wiring networks, making fire accidents almost inevitable and quick escape in fire situations nearly impossible. One can only imagine what the situation could be in smaller towns and cities. However, this incident underlines that high rises and posh housing are not very safe either in this regard.
