CAPITAL PYRO-OLYMPICS FEBRUARY SCORELINE:  DELHI-2 / FIRE SAFETY-0

Tuesday: At least 17 people were killed as a massive fire swept through a Arpit Palace Hotel in central Delhi's Karol Bagh area early on Tuesday, police said. The hotel is  located on Gurudwara Road in Karol Bagh. A call about the fire was received at 4.35am and 24 fire tenders were rushed to the spot, a senior officer from the Delhi Fire Service said.  A senior Delhi Police official said 17 people were killed in the fire.

Thursday: A medium category fire broke out at a paper card factory at 7: 10 am in Delhi's Naraina Industrial Area, Phase I. At least 29 fire tenders reached the spot to douse the fire.
The factory is reported to be of Archies. According to reports, the fire might burn down properties worth lakhs.

Even before the embers of the Arpit hotel fire could cool down another fire in an ‘Archies’ factory kept firemen busy in the national capital. February turned out to be an unkind month for Delhi Fire Brigade. The Arpit fire bared the terrible fire safety lapses that the country has become familiar with every time such mishaps occur. Blocked exits, malfunctioning alarms, jammed windows and everything else only underlines the fact that fire safety is way down in the priority list for builders, owners and everyone else connected with the construction industry.
